By building a simple site on any topic or niche of your choice, it simply becomes a respository of information on that subject. e.g. it could be all about health matters, or fitness, or hypnosis, or cellphones, or whatever. In other words an article directory on a particular subject.

If you choose a topic or niche that you have an interest in, so much the better, because you will be building a site about something you know, and hopefully have a passion about. But it's not necessary. The important point is that the niche you choose should have sufficient volume of searches to justify you putting in the time and efforts. If there are not many monthly searches, you are never going to make any real money. After all, the purpose of the exercise is how to make money at home!

By placing the adverts contextually for each page of your site, so that the article content relates to the adverts, a certain amount of site visitors will click on the ads.

So it's really a numbers game. The more people visiting your site pages, the more money you are likely to make.

Just be sure its a popular niche, with adequate monthly searches. This is easy to find out if you visit google's external keyword search tool where you can determine in advance if it's worth your while.

Another important consideration in choosing keyword phrases for your niche, is to be sure that ther terms you pick are not too hard to rank for. A number of factors are pertinent here. For example, if you had a site about remedies, the term 'remedies' would in all probability be hard to rank for.

However, if you picked a sub niche like cold remedies, or sore throat remedies or natural health remedies or other similar terms, your chances of success are better. It's really a matter of just digging down to find suitable terms

Essentially, you want a term that has a reasonable amount of searches to be profitable, but yet doesn't have too many competing web pages with that term on their site. A term often used to describe this is KEI, meaning Keyword Effectiveness index. The higher the number, the better.

A tool that can greatly aid you in this is the free keyword suggestion tool at Wordtracker Once you have found the keyword search terms that are suitable and relevant to your site, you just build it one page at a time. Each page should be named after the particular search term you wish to rank for. e.g. for the search term 'blue widgets', you could name the page something like 'Where to get the Finest Blue Widgets' or whatever. Then write a suitable article based on the title.

Obviously at this stage you are wondering about all the article writing you will have to do, but in fact it's not really necessary to write anything at all, if you don't fell upto it. Other than getting someone else to do the writing (which will cost you), there are numerous places online where you can pick up whats known as Private Label Rights (PLR) to thousands of articles. These cover just about every topic under the sun. Just search for plr in Google, and you will come up with hundreds of sites. You can use these articles and rewrite them or chop and slice them up any way you want.

l should also mention that the two most important considerations, generally speaking, from Google's point of view, when deciding how relevant your site is to any particular search term, are:

1) The amount of links on other sites pointing to your site (known as backlinks) with the search term for the page, embedded in the link. This is known as the anchor text. An example could be, say instead of using the term 'Click Here', you use 'Click here for the Finest Blue Widgets', instead, so that the term 'Blue widgets' is part of the link text. I'll elaborate on that in another article.

2) To keep adding new keyword rich content to your site, as often as possible, and getting as many backlinks pointing to that content as you can.

If you spent your time doing nothing else but these two things, you would scale the rankings fairly quickly. And if the search terms you are using are not too difficult to rank for, it will not take long to get to page one with Google.
